One football pundit has claimed that a current Chelsea player is the kind of player that “needs a cuddle” and it is down to the head coach Enzo Maresca to identify that need.
I think to be honest as well, Maresca is certainly the type of person and manager who will see this and will know what each of his individual players would need. Because everyone is different as a person and everyone has different needs.
Managers these days need to remember the human aspect of the game as well. Some need tough love, others just need love.
According to pundit and former player and manager Tim Sherwood, Jadon Sancho is one of those players that need love and an arm around his shoulder.
Sherwood compliments Sancho’s ability
The former midfielder likes Sancho and says he is a very intelligent football player, in words cited on X this week.
He says:
“You see a lot of wide players who play with their head down. He plays with his head up. He is a very, very intelligent footballer, but he is an intelligent footballer who needs a cuddle, who needs love, and the manager has got to identify that.”
I do think he’s got a point about Sancho, he is the kind of player who needs to feel the love and support from a manager to keep his confidence high, and that’s absolutely fine.
He’s started very well so far in a Chelsea shirt, so Maresca must be instilling some belief for him.
