The 2025 recruiting class for the Miami football moved up to 15th nationally following the commitments of four-star cornerback Chris Ewald and three-star edge rusher Herbert Scroggins on Thursday and Friday. Most of the social media responses to the commitments centered around the potential for Ewald and Scroggins.
Ewald is the 169th prospect, 21st CB and 24th player in Florida out of Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna in the 2025 class. Scroggins is the 407th prospect, 29th edge rusher and 46th player in Georgia in the 2025 class. Ewald and Scroggins are the 13th and 14th commits in the 2025 Miami class.
Miami has eight committed players on offense and six on defense. Ewald is the fourth highest ranked 2025 Miami commit and second on defense. Scroggins is the eighth-ranked player in the 2024 Miami class and fifth highest on defense per the 247Sports rankings. Ewald and Scroggins both took official visits to Miami in June.
One of the accolades for Ewald was from his father who wished him a happy birthday on Thursday. Another observation for Ewald is that he will reunite with 2024 Miami signee, safety Zaquan Patterson to reform an elite secondary.
Miami has been on a recruiting run and is now up to No. 16 in the 247Sports team rankings. Eight of the 13 commitments in the class are 247Sports Composite blue-chippers.
Really like four-star CB Chris Ewald. Spent the last few years covering the best WRs in the country daily. https://t.co/DWswbwL96c

Chaminade-Madonna finished the 2023 season 14-0 and won the 1M FHSAA Florida State Championship per Max Preps. After seemingly focusing on the line of scrimmage in his first two classes with Miami, Mario Cristobal has brought in several blue-chip defensive backs in the 2024 and 2025 classes.
ELITE DB duo set to be reunited in Miami. 👀🙌

Ewald provides Miami with decent length at 6’0 and 165 pounds with the potential to be a shutdown CB. In three high school seasons, Ewald has made 100 tackles, 32 pass breakups and seven interceptions. Miami will get a productive player who knows how to be in the right position to make a play.

Scroggins has also been a productive player with”84 tackles, 12 sacks, 10 more stops for loss and 14 quarterback hurries” as a junior in 2023 per Steve Wiltfong of On3. At 6’2 and 235 pounds, Scroggins will have to add mass as an edge rusher.

Scroggins spoke to WTOC-11 in Savannah about why he chose Miami. The opportunity to work with Miami defensive line coach Jason Taylor and the humbleness shown by Hurricanes’ head coach Mario Cristobal were the majority factors in the decision by Scroggins to matriculate in Coral Gables.
Herbert Scroggins III (@Third_Scroggins) announced his final four on Wednesday of last week, followed by his OV to #Miami over the weekend.
"You can connect with them, talk with them… and then play the game you love."

Ewald and Scroggins are key additions to the 2025 Miami class. The commitment from Ewald was critical. Getting a blue-chip prospect to stay home is significant for Miami. Expect more commitments in the next few weeks. The June window of official visits closed last weekend.
Mario Cristobal always has a few surprises during the Early National Signing Period in December. Miami has flipped three Ohio State commitments in the last two classes. It would not be surprising for Miami to flip a few prospects during the Early National Signing Period for the 2025 class.
