Ronnie Burrell Acquires A Position as a Blazers Coach
The former Nets assistant is swapping coasts.
The Portland Trail Blazers have hired former G League Coach of the Year and Brooklyn Nets assistant Ronnie Burrell, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Burrell joins Nate Bjorkgren and Chris Fleming on Chauncey Billups’ staff, replacing Scott Brooks, Rodney Billups and Steve Hetzel. The latter left the Blazers to join Jordi Fernandez’ new Nets staff this offseason.
The 40-year-old former forward played college ball at UNC Greensboro before earning a living in the French, German and Polish leagues, winning multiple local titles.
In 2019, he joined Brooklyn’s G League affiliate Long Island as an assistant coach before getting the top job in 2022-23, winning G League Coach of the year his first season.
Burrell joined the Nets coaching staff last season, working under Head Coach Jacque Vaughn.
The Blazers have not announced which of Burrell, Fleming or Bjorkgren will serve as lead assistant, the role formerly held by Scott Brooks.
