San Antonio Spurs Add Someone in a Mock Trade Kyle Kuzma
The San Antonio Spurs added two veterans this summer: Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes, but neither of them is projected to be a long-term piece. Barnes, the youngest of the two, is 32 years old and only has two seasons remaining on his contract. In the capital, the Washington Wizards are in the middle of a youth movement. They drafted Alexandre Sarr, Bub Carrington, and Kyshawn George, and signed Saddiq Bey, who is only 25 years old. It’s clear that the Wizards are looking to rebuild, and Kyle Kuzma doesn’t fit their schedule.
Kuzma is 29 and is on a descending contract through the 2026-27 season. As the Wizards look to give their young guys as much playing time as possible and land a high pick in 2025, Kuzma is the odd man out. He is coming off the best year of his career and has been rumored to be on the trade block ever since the Wizards traded for him in 2021.
In a recently proposed mock trade by GiveMeSport, the Wizards send Kuzma to the Spurs for Barnes, a 2025 pick via the Bulls, a 2025 pick via the Hornets, and a pick swap with the Kings in 2031. Kuzma is a 6-9 forward with a 7-0 wingspan, which would fit in well with the long and lanky lineup featuring Devin Vassell, Stephon Castle, Jeremy Sochan, and Victor Wembanyama that the Spurs are hoping to feature long-term. Kuzma shot 33.6 percent from deep last season but has shot 36 percent before, but he is not really a floor-spacing threat. He is comfortable getting his shot off and would take some attention away from Wemby and Vassell and give Castle another offensive-minded player to pass to.
