Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham recently shared her unfiltered opinion about NASCAR drivers after attending the NASCAR Cup Series Championship, where she also met actress Sydney Sweeney.
During the November 4 episode of her Show Me Something podcast, co-host Wes Wilson asked Cunningham if she thought any NASCAR drivers were “hot.” Her response was hilariously blunt:
> “Wes, they all come up to my belly button,” Cunningham said, laughing.
The 6′1″ WNBA forward joked that while NASCAR drivers are “bigger than jockeys,” they’re still “really small guys” compared to her. For context, championship winner Ryan Blaney stands at 5′9″, and Kyle Larson, who clinched the NASCAR Cup Series title, is 5′6″.
Even if no one caught her eye, Cunningham appeared to enjoy her time at the event. It’s been a busy offseason for the Fever star, who is currently an unrestricted free agent for the first time in her career.
Cunningham spent six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury before being traded to the Indiana Fever as part of a four-team deal. Now, she’s exploring her options while recovering from a torn MCL she suffered in August 2025 during a game against the Connecticut Sun. Before her injury, she was averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.
The Missouri alum was a three-time First-Team All-SEC selection from 2017 to 2019 and was drafted in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft. Despite her injury, Cunningham has remained active — making public appearances, recording her podcast, and even attending high-profile events like the NASCAR finale.
While it’s unclear if she’ll return to the Fever next season, fans are enjoying this more relaxed, humorous side of Sophie Cunningham as she continues her recovery and navigates free agency.
