The Broncos defense has been really good to start the season. Denver will need to replicate that today.
The Denver Broncos defense has been impressive to start the season.
The only complaint in the first three games is stopping the running game. Entering Week 4, Denver is 21st against the run (126.0 yards per game). Aside from that, the Broncos defense has been on point
Entering today’s game against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets, Denver is seventh in total defense (259.3 yards per game), second in passing defense (133.3 YPG), and sixth in scoring defense (15.3 points per game).
For the Broncos to win today, the defense will have to replicate the first three weeks. They need to get after Rodgers, limit big plays in the passing game, and stop the run—at least limit the damage from the really good New York running backs.
Mina Kimes thinks the Denver pass rush will be a key factor:
“If this pass rush plays the way they have, that ball’s going to come out pretty quick. I mean, I know Aaron Rodgers was moving around a bit against New England — which was really encouraging, by the way — but he wants to win from the pocket. He wants to win quickly. And he’s going to have to, I think because this Broncos pass rush has been really impressive.”
As for the pass rush, Kimes noted that the Broncos are third in pass-rush win rate and third in pressure rate — and that’s without blitzing. Denver is also first in the NFL with a blitz rate of 50%.
It’s easy to see why Kimes said the Broncos pass rush could be a key factor.
“I think that is extremely meaningful against this Jets offensive line, which has been good, but, of course, did lose the right tackle,” Kimes said, “and there’s definitely an opportunity there.”
