**It’s Official: Chris Paul not to Wear No. 3 with the San Antonio Spurs**
The San Antonio Spurs have revealed their jerseys and the numbers each player will wear for the upcoming season.
The switch is confirmed: forward Keldon Johnson has officially not given Chris Paul his iconic No. 3 jersey. Known as “CP3” in the NBA, Paul has had an illustrious 20-year career with multiple teams and has worn No. 3 since entering the league in 2005. There’s no indication of whether any compensation was involved in this jersey number change, but it’s clear that retaining Paul’s number was important for memorabilia value.
The announcement was made public on Thursday, and the jerseys are now available for purchase at the Spurs Fan Shop.
Johnson shared that Paul was his favorite player growing up and, as the third child in his family, he chose No. 3 to honor his childhood hero. “I was the third child,” Johnson told KENS5. “Chris Paul was my favorite player, and I watched a lot of his highlights when I was younger.”
Johnson previously wore No. 3 during his time at Kentucky and in high school in Virginia. Now, not only does he have the opportunity to play alongside CP3, but he also gets to give his hero his number. This season, Johnson will wear No. 0, the same number he had while playing with the Austin Spurs in the G League.
