Stephen Curry Shares Retirement Thoughts as Warriors Star Signals He Is Not Done Yet

Stephen Curry continues to build on one of the most remarkable careers in basketball history, even as he approaches the later stages of his time in the NBA. The Stephen Curry guard for the Golden State Warriors has already secured his legacy with four championships, two MVP awards, and numerous All-Star appearances. Despite those achievements, Curry recently made it clear that he still feels motivated to compete and contribute. During a conversation on The Athletic Show, he explained that his love for the game remains a powerful reason to keep going, noting that basketball still feels like his “happy place” whenever he steps onto the court.

At 38 years old and currently navigating his 17th NBA season, Curry understands he is in a different chapter of his career. While many players at this stage begin seriously planning life after basketball, the veteran point guard appears in no rush to step away. Whether his future eventually leads to media work, coaching, or ventures outside the sport entirely, Curry has earned the freedom to decide his next path on his own terms. For now, however, he believes his competitive spirit and enjoyment of the game remain strong enough to keep him on the court.

Even at this stage, Curry’s production has hardly declined. Throughout the season, he has continued to deliver impressive numbers, averaging over 27 points per game while also contributing rebounds, assists, and steals. His shooting efficiency remains elite, particularly from beyond the arc, where he continues to rank among the league’s most dangerous perimeter threats. These performances have been especially valuable for the Warriors, as his leadership and scoring ability have often carried the team through challenging stretches.

One concern that has surfaced recently involves his health. Curry has been sidelined since late January due to what has been described as “runner’s knee,” and the lingering discomfort has complicated his return timeline. With the Warriors cautious about aggravating the injury, there is speculation that the team could opt to limit his minutes—or even shut him down for the remainder of the season—to protect his long-term durability.

Regardless of the uncertainty surrounding his injury, Curry’s outlook on retirement remains clear. He still plans to continue playing and is currently under contract through 2027, with two years remaining on his deal. The Warriors organization remains committed to building a competitive roster around him in hopes of securing another championship during the final phase of his career. As long as Curry continues to find joy and motivation in the game, the team can move forward with confidence knowing their franchise icon is not ready to walk away just yet.
