There’s Room for NFL Legend to Return, Says Texans Coach
After a breakout season in 2023 and hitting home runs with new head coach DeMaco Ryans and quarterback C.J. Stroud, the Houston Texans are a team on the rise in the NFL with a potentially bright future ahead.
Along with seeing Stroud approach superstar status in his first season while Ryans proved he was the right man for the job on the sidelines, the Texans got aggressive this offseason to improve the roster on both sides of the football.
As if the team wasn’t already talented offensively, the team acquired wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a trade with the Buffalo Bills and running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals.
In addition to those solid moves, Houston brought in veteran pass rusher Danielle Hunter to give the defense a much-needed boost.
With the Texans potentially in a championship window, Ryans has an open invitation for three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt to return to the team.
“J.J. knows anytime he’s ready, I’m ready,” Ryans said on “Up & Adams.” “… It’s always open for J.J. I’m never closing that door.”
Watt has been flirting with the idea of coming out of retirement, as he’s seen what the Texans are doing and might be hoping for one last shot at winning a Super Bowl title before putting an end to his playing days for good.
Although Watt struggled with injuries at the end of his career, the Texans legend would be a welcome addition to the squad if he was serious about making a comeback.
