Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed £25-30million would be a fair valuation for the 25-year-old, who can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.
Alexander-Arnold is yet to sign a new deal at Liverpool and has less than 12 months to run on his current deal at Anfield.
The England international has been widely linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid in recent years.
He was a crucial player for Jurgen Klopp’s side last term, notching three goals and nine assists in 39 appearances.
Liverpool face tough decision on ‘£30m’ Alexander-Arnold exit, says Wyness
Wyness claimed it could be worth “taking the hit” for Liverpool and allowing him to run down his deal – but admitted his personal opinion is that the right-back will leave Merseyside this summer.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The question is – do you take the hit on a player like Trent?
“He can sign pre-contracts in January.
“Do you take the hit with one year left, what are they going to get for him?
“Personally, I think there will be a move made and he will go.
“£25-30million would be a fair offer with one year left, do you take the hit and accept that as a cost for him playing one last season?
“That’s the sort of thing Liverpool will be looking at.
“It’s a transition season, and it could be worth a lot to keep him and forgo the transfer fee just to have him in the squad.
“It’s a very interesting way to look at it. If they challenge for the league or get into the Champions League, it could be sustainable.”
