Watson Causes Stefanski to Hesitate While Jeudy Addresses Reporters
The Cleveland Browns started preparations for the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday in Berea. Brad Stainbrook has After falling to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday evening, the Cleveland Browns turned their preparation to the final preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks with the first practice of the week on Tuesday afternoon.
In a weirdly scheduled game to close out the preseason, the Browns will fly out to play the Seahawks on Saturday. It’ll be a 10:00 pm ET kickoff.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski suggested that all starters, including quarterback Deshaun Watson, will play on Saturday in Seattle, however, Stefanski left himself an out by saying that final decisions will be made later in the week.
Here are some key takeaways from practice on Tuesday at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus:
Injury Updates
Linebacker Tony Fields returned to practice today after missing a few weeks. Fields was the only player to return to practice. Wide receiver Amari Cooper sat out of the majority of practice on Tuesday, but did do light work during a team walk-through. Cooper did not have a helmet on when participating.
Light Day in Berea
The Browns started light during the first practice of the week. The Browns were not in pads, and the team did not appear to go full speed during the majority of team drills.
Some Quarterback Talk
While it was a slow day in Berea on Tuesday, Watson did have a few nice throws to players like Jerry Jeudy and Jordan Akins. Dorian Thompson-Robinson also made some nice throws during team drills as well.
Jerry Jeudy
Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy spoke to reporters before practice on Tuesday.
Jeudy spoke about the importance of training camp and things the team will work on while preparing for Saturday’s matchup in Seattle.
“Just timing with the quarterback, timing, understanding route concepts, and understanding what a coach is and the quarterback wants,” Jeudy said before practice.
Jeudy continues to work back from his minor injury at the start of training camp but has looked near 100% lately. While the training staff is being cautious with him, the expectation is he’ll be good to go in week one vs Dallas.
“Yeah, I think I’m doing good,” Jeudy said. “I’m listening to the training staff. I feel like they have the best position for me possible to stay healthy and be ready for what they want. That’s the goal right now.
Choice routes have been talked a lot about heading into this new offense, but Jeudy has been running choice routes his entire career, and it all comes down to communication between the receiver and the quarterback.
“Yeah, I think so. If we’re on the same page, that route, that type of route all depends on the coverage of the defender,” Jeudy said. “So if you could both see the coverage and understand what they are running and what they want, then I’m pretty sure we’ll be on time. That starts with watching game film and just communicating with each other. Yeah, that’s it for real.”
