Former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson is trending in a positive direction as he continues to work his way back from the season-ending shoulder injury he suffered in Week 10 of the 2023 campaign.
Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski met with the media this week and provided an update on Watson, who underwent season-ending surgery last November to repair a displaced fracture to the glenoid in his right (throwing) shoulder.
Watson has been throwing during OTAs, and Stefanski likes what he’s seen on the field from Watson, saying the three-time Pro Bowler “looks like himself.”
“He looked like himself to me,” Stefanski told reporters. “I’ve been able to watch him the last couple of weeks now that we’ve gotten into Phase Two, so I’ve seen him throw. He’s making great progress. We will continue to just follow the medical team on this, but he looks like himself.”
For the time being, Watson is throwing every other day in OTAs as he continues his rehab, per Stefanski.
“We’re rotating days for now,” Stefanski said. “That will change as we get into minicamp, as, obviously, we get into training camp. But for right now, he’ll be throwing every other day.”
Watson is entering his third year with the Browns in 2024 after being traded to Cleveland from the Houston Texans in March 2022 and then signing a new fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract with the Browns.
Prior to the season-ending injury in 2023, Watson completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,115 yards and seven touchdowns with four interceptions across six games last season.
The 28-year-old has passed for 16,756 yards and 118 touchdowns with 45 interceptions in 66 career games with the Browns and Texans since being taken by Houston in the first round (12th overall) of the 2017 draft.
