Enzo Maresca seemed an almost relieved man to have finished his first Chelsea press conference. Even for the most experienced of managers, meeting the media for the first time can be rather daunting.
“That was the shortest press conference of my life,” Maresca said down the corridor moments after his press conference, addressing the group of journalists that had just asked him questions on a variety of topics. Overall, though, it was a highly intriguing opening press conference as Blues head coach.
You can normally tell a lot about a person from first impressions and Maresca came across really well. Polite and well mannered behind the scenes, and he did his best to answer every question – something that not all managers do.
The Enzo Fernandez questions were inevitable. He would have been more than aware about the incoming questions on the matter but he answered them well, while understandably not wanting to touch too much on the sensitive subject.
football.london asked him a question about the injury problems at the club last season and what he would do differently. While not answering it directly, because he had not seen what happened under Mauricio Pochettino last term, he did get his point across that they were working on solutions.
“I always say the same. It’s difficult to judge the situation when you are inside,” Maresca said. “I don’t know what kind of problems they had. Fortunately, we started two weeks ago and didn’t have many problems. We will also try to manage that.”
