Marc Guiu will be looking forward to kick-starting his Chelsea career in the coming weeks.
The Blues completed a deal to sign the striker from Barcelona earlier this month. Chelsea agreed a £5million deal to sign Guiu from the La Liga giants, with the 18-year-old signing a five-year contract to move to Stamford Bridge.
Guiu joins Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja as the current striker options at Chelsea. The teenager will begin pre-season training at Cobham in the coming days before travelling with the squad to the United States for a series of friendly fixtures.
The signing of Guiu was the fourth deal to be completed by Chelsea this summer. The striker joins Tosin Adarabioyo, Estevao Willian and Omari Kellyman in agreeing to sign for the Blues, with Willian officially becoming a Chelsea player next summer.
A report in The Athletic has provided some insight into Guiu’s decision to leave Barcelona in favour of a move to Chelsea. The report states that Guiu did not initially plan to leave the Camp Nou, having been with the club since his days at the famed La Masia academy.
It has been claimed that Guiu joined Chelsea due to the Blues offering him a “project” which could not be matched by Barcelona. The young forward is also reported to have received offers from clubs across Europe since the January transfer window.
Guiu has made just seven appearances for Barcelona and has scored two goals before his exit. The teenager only made his La Liga debut in October last year, scoring his first goal in the same game against Atheltic Bilbao.
The striker went on to make his debut in the Champions League just three days later. Guiu’s first goal in Europe came in Barca’s group-stage victory against Royal Antwerp last December.
