The Los Angeles home of WNBA standout Sabrina Ionescu was burglarized Monday night, according to authorities, adding her name to a growing list of high-profile athletes affected by recent break-ins. Police confirmed that more than $60,000 worth of designer handbags were stolen from the residence shared by Ionescu and her husband, former NFL offensive lineman Hroniss Grasu. No suspects have been arrested as the investigation continues.
Law enforcement officials said officers responded to the home around 8 p.m. after an alarm was triggered. Investigators determined that two suspects forced entry by smashing through a glass door at the rear of the property. By the time police arrived, the burglars had already fled the scene with several high-value items. Authorities noted that the couple was not home during the incident.
Ionescu, a Walnut Creek native, has become one of the most recognizable faces in women’s basketball. At just 28 years old, she is a four-time WNBA All-Star and played a key role in leading the New York Liberty to a championship in 2024. Her husband, Hroniss Grasu, was drafted into the NFL in 2015 and most recently suited up for the Las Vegas Raiders during the 2023 season.
The burglary has drawn additional attention because it follows a pattern of similar crimes involving professional athletes. Just one day earlier, Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons reportedly had his home broken into while his team was traveling for a road game. Authorities believe these incidents may be part of a broader trend targeting athletes’ residences when they are away.
For now, police say the case remains open, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward. As investigations continue, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about security for public figures and athletes, particularly during busy seasons that often take them away from home.
