After an actionless first 2 innings last night against the Mets, Brayan Rocchio tripled home Bo Naylor in the third inning. After that, Tyler Freeman celebrated his birthday by doubling home Rocch. Then Starling Marte’s week of blunders struck again on a Jose Ramirez fly ball, making it 3-0.
Xzavion Curry, making a surprise start in place of Carlos Carrasco, who was placed on the IL with a wonky neck, didn’t have much, but allowed just 2 runs. Over 4.1 innings, that’s a passable result. Nick Sandlin stranded his inherited runners.
But a better SP5 solution is on the horizon:

With the score 3-2, Jose Jose Jose Ramirez homered with Freeman on second to make it 5-2, getting those 2 runs right back.
Then Sam Hentges gave those 2 runs right back; 5-4.
Then Jake Diekman gave those 2 runs right back; 7-4. That was on a David Fry homer in a sequence that Mets rookie manager Carlos Mendoza really butchered. First he left Adrian Hauser in to star the inning, then going to a LH reliever invited a Fry PH opportunity.
But wait! Then Scott Barlow gave those 2 runs right back. Are you seeing a pattern here?
But Emmanuel Clase said “enough of this shit” and slammed the door shut.
